The New View for 2012

For about two decades I have been writing and education about thermography as a better and safer screening method for breast cancer.

The two best reasons are that it does not expose you to unnecessary radiation and it detects 10 years earlier than x-ray.

This article may help you have a better view and also worth getting a copy to your health care provider.

Sadly I have learned that in some radiology practices they will not allow ultrasound unless you have had a prior mammogram.

Get the facts and take a stand for your best health.

Excerpt from a clinical article highlighting the facts about thermography -

  • Breast thermography has undergone extensive research since the late 1950's.

  • Over 800 peer-reviewed studies on breast thermography exist in the index-medicus literature.

  • In this database, well over 300,000 women have been included as study participants.

  • The numbers of participants in many studies are very large -- 10K, 37K, 60K, 85K …

  • Some of these studies have followed patients up to 12 years.

  • Strict standardized interpretation protocols have been established for over 20 years.

  • Breast thermography has an average sensitivity and specificity of 90%.

  • An abnormal thermogram is 10 times more significant as a future risk indicator for breast cancer than a first order family history of the disease.

  • A persistent abnormal thermogram caries with it a 22x higher risk of future breast cancer.

  • An abnormal infrared image is the single most important marker of high risk for developing breast cancer.

  • Breast thermography has the ability to detect the first signs that a cancer may be forming up to 10 years before any other procedure can detect it.

  • Research has shown that breast thermography significantly augments the long-term survival rates of its recipients by as much as 61%.

  • When used as part of a multimodal approach (clinical examination + mammography + thermography) 95% of early stage cancers will be detected.

PINKTOBER

When I read last month that the Komen Foundation was pinkwashing a perfume I just thought, "What now?" According to Breast Cancer Action this perfume is a chemical soup of toxic substances that are linked with cancer. You can decide for your self, but I support raising a stink! Another taboo topic from Komen is BREAST CANCER PREVENTION. And another is BPA. And yet another is THERMOGRAPHY. Here's a comment from a breast cancer survivor about thermography. She commented on a report that breast cancer survivors need ongoing mammograms. More mammograms = more breast cancer.

Where I live the rural hospital doctors do not want to learn anything new according to the administrator, so women in this area will not be able to have the best care. It is no different for men because I have been educating against PSA for at least a decade.
I am a breast cancer survivor and I will NEVER have another mammogram. It did not find my tumor the first time(I did) so I do not have any confidence it would again. Instead I have opted for thermography, which is safer and painless. As I continuously work to detox my breast from the effects of radiation, I can actually see the improvements on a thermograph since therms can see the physiological changes in breasts. This is especially helpful for women like me who have denser breasts. It is time to stop this nonsense that themography is not a viable way to determine possible breast cancers. It is cheap and painless, and if more women had access, we would save a lot more lives than mammos do, which are also damaging to the breast. The only reason thermography is not a standard of care is because we have no insurance codes for it, thanks to extensive lobbying by the mammography industry who continue to falsely claim therms are unreliable. Any diagnostic test is only as reliable as the person who interprets it. Obviously, the tech who read my mammogram was not reliable. So why isn't anyone using the stats for all these missed tumors when they laud mammos? These are our breasts. WE should have the right to choose. If the medical community really cares about women's lives, they would fight to make thermography a standard of care. Then we would really save lives. I agree and you should too, it detects 10 years earlier and does not raise your risk of breast cancer.

Thermography Validated

NEW: From the British Medical Journal

"WOMEN LIVE WITH FALSE CANCER VERDICT FOR A YEAR BEFORE GETTING THE

ALL-CLEAR"
24% of mammogram results are false-positives, where cancers are detected
that aren't really there. Some women live with the belief they have breast
cancer for over a year, suffering great anxiety, before the mistake is
rectified, a new study has found. Researchers questioned 385 women with
abnormal mammogram results. Of these, just 152 were diagnosed with breast
cancer, but the other 233 had false-positive results. 60% of all abnormal
mammogram results are false positives found research from St. Elisabeth
Hospital in Tilburg, Netherlands. Nobody tells the women about the high
rate of false-positives.
(Br J Surg,2011; 98: 537-42)
In its never ending march to side with the corporations and the mainstream FDA seems to be going against the flow.

Has the FDA told you that mammography, while existing as the standard, was never recommended to screen women for breast cancer because of the over exposure to ionizing radiation, a known cause of cancer?

Now - even though thermography has received FDA approval, it stands on its platform of mammography as the only approved screening system.  And at the same time blocks any information that has been scientifically established showing a much earlier detection rate over the x-ray based system.
Clinical research studies continue to support thermography's role as an adjunctive tool in breast cancer screening and the ONLY tool that measures breast health. There are now more than 800 publications on over 300,000 women in clinical trials. A recent finding published in the American Journal of Radiology in 2003 showed that thermography has 99% sensitivity in identifying breast cancer with single examinations and limited views. Scientists concluded that a negative thermogram is powerful evidence that cancer is not present.
  • In 1982, the FDA approved thermography as an adjunctive tool for breast cancer screening. Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging, also known as DITI measures heat emitted from the body and is accurate to 1/100th of a degree.
  • During a chest X-ray, a person receives 1/1000 of a RAD, or radiation absorbed dose. This type of X-ray is a high energy X-ray. During a mammogram, however, the X-ray used is a low energy X-ray and results in 1 RAD or a 1000-fold greater exposure than a simple chest X-ray. It has been suggested that the low energy X-ray used may cause greater biological damage which is cumulative over time. In a journal entitled Radiation Research and published in 2004, the author concludes that the risks associated with mammography screening may be FIVE times higher than previously assumed and the risk-benefit relationship of mammography exposures need to be re-examined.
  • Detection rate of breast cancer for CBE is only 47% when the tumors are less than 1 centimeter while mammography has given us a 70% detection rate. By the time a tumor is detected by palpation or found mammographically, it has already been growing and developing for 8-10 years.
Many medical schools are using thermography now, but again, this is not in the FDA press release, nor have they been issued warning letters.

NEW - How much pink turns into green?

Looks as if some people are catching on, says Komen Foundation rated only as a B+ which means much less than 75% of donations are used for goals.  A pretty high adminsitrative rate if you ask me, when 7% should be the target.

and

"I don't think people understand the lack of progress"
The stark reality is that in the 26 years since the campaign began, deaths from breast cancer have dropped only slightly — about 2% per year, starting in 1990. According to the National Breast Cancer Coalition in Washington, D.C., 117 women in the U.S. died of breast cancer every day in 1991; today that number is 110.

Just the other day I was out shopping about 80 miles from where I live. I was on a mission as I was looking for some specific items.Every turn I made up another aisle was a woman talking on a cell phone.

Exasperated, I finally had had enough and when I went on yet another aisle in yest anotehr store I yelled out " Not you too!" This woman was no more than a foot from me chatting on her cell phone, holding it between her ear and shoulder.

I looked her straight in the eye and said, "Don't you know cell phones are linked to breast and thyroid cancer, and can cause heart disease?"

In a quick, and all too common reply, she said, "That hasn't been scientifically proven."

My answer was, "Yes it has, since the 1940s!"

Of course too few know the real risk of cell phones and WIFI, but the cellular providers do, and so do the scientists.

Even more amazing was when, while channel flipping, I heard Dr. OZ tell poeple that you have to shield your thyroid when you get ANY x-ray (even mammogram) or you will be at risk for thyroid cancer, because x-ray is cumulative. And, YES, this means that when you opt for radiation treatment if you have breast cancer you can get thyroid cancer and heart failure.  Just something we have been teaching at CHI for decades.

Now that this cat is out of the mainstream bag, ask about options to give you better and earlier screening and least risk of more cancer.

Why 98.6 May Be Good For Your Body

A mathematical model finds that a temperature of about 98.6 F is high enough to ward off the majority of fungal infections, but still low enough to only require a manageable level of food intake.

As a bitter winter storm rages on the east coast, it’s hard to knock being warm-blooded. But what about the metabolic cost of maintaining a high body-temperature? Well, a new study finds that we and many other mammals keep up such a torrid temp because it’s a Goldilocks situation—98.6 is just right.
Albert Einstein College of Medicine researchers previously showed that every one degree Celsius rise in body temperature wards off about 6 percent more fungal species. So tens of thousands of fungi can infect reptiles and amphibians, but we can only be invaded by a few hundred fungi.
In the new work, the researchers created a mathematical model that weighed the fungal protection benefits versus the metabolic cost of high body-temperature. And the optimal temperature was 98.1, quite close to what evolution figured out. The research was published in the open-access journal mBio. [Aviv Bergman and Arturo Casadevall, Mammalian Endothermy Optimally Restricts Fungi and Metabolic Costs]
Too low a temperature and we’re far more susceptible to fungal infections. Too high a temperature and we’d spend all our time taking in fuel to burn. So 98.6, like that middle bowl of porridge, is just right.
—Steve Mirsky
